Cold and Flu Prevention Tips

             We are currently in the middle of fall and winter is just around the corner. From holidays to a time change, these seasons bring a lot of different things. Unfortunately, not all of these things are good. For instance, many people get sick with the flu and cold more often around these times.             Our first tip for you is to practice good hygiene. To help prevent coming in to contact with anything that can make you sick, be sure to always wash your hands with antibacterial soap after using the restroom and before consuming anything. If you don’t have access to a sink, consider carrying around antibacterial wipes or hand sanitizing gel. Also, try not to touch your eyes, nose, mouth, and so forth throughout the day as this is another one of the most common ways to catch something.

             A second suggestion to help prevent getting sick is to avoid sharing things. No, we’re not saying to be stingy or selfish when it comes to others. What we’re saying is to avoid situations where illnesses can be spread, such as drinking out of the same cup as someone else.

             Our third tip is to make sure that you are getting a sufficient amount of beneficial vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In particular, vitamin C and zinc are two of the best types since they promote the health of your immune system, which is responsible for fighting off illnesses. For vitamin C, consume things like oranges or its juice. As for zinc, pumpkin is one of your best bets. Also, be sure to take a daily supplement that contains high amounts of these vital nutrients to ensure that you are getting enough.

             A fourth suggestion to help prevent getting sick is to get enough sleep each day.  Like the daily intake of nutrients, enough daily sleep is important for the health of your immune system. How much is enough though you ask? Most experts agree that around 8 hours is the right number for the average adult.

             Our fifth tip is to make sure that you are dressed appropriately for these seasons. Fall and winter bring cold temperatures and staying warm is essential to prevent getting sick. Always be sure to at least bring a sweater or hoodie with you just to be on the safe side.

             A sixth and final suggestion is to talk with your doctor. He or she can tell you about different vaccination options. For instance, a flu shot could be a good choice for you. However, note that such vaccinations do not guarantee total immunity from such illnesses. Hence, it would still be in your best interest to practice the five other tips mentioned too.
